Al slipped into the silent library with a sigh. This was insane, he had slipped out of the welcoming feast to research things that he really didn't want to find out about. Well, it was a just in case his best friend had some kinda of curse on him from his ex....
"I'm insane." he gently leaped over the chain around the restricted section and looked at the bindings of the books. "It's not like that bastard could have really used a curse on Mattie to keep him there. I mean, Mattie could have worked out how to cancel it if that had happened, right?"
Al sighed, who was he kidding? He'd have to ask Mattie if he'd been cursed...

Maria, still maintaining her good distance, followed Alfred into the library. She was curious why would the professor want to sneak out of the Feast to go here, most especially the restricted section of the library. The library for Maria was her haven when she's not out to take care of the creatures for her Care of Magical Creatures Class. Then again, she owes most of er spellwork to the library.
But there was something in the current situation that made the Filipina furrow her brow. 'Why the restricted section?' she thought to herself as she hid behind a bookcase but still had a good view of the blonde American.
It was the most unusual thing to see.
As she took as step forward, her hand managed to accidently topple a loose pile of books on the bookshelf causing a small avalanche of book. Maria clapped her hand on her mouth as she almost gasp in the darkness. 'Bwisit! [Shit!]' she thought as she quickly ducked further in the aisle, hoping that the profesor did not see her.
The last thing that she wanted was to ruin her perfect 'no detention' record.

Al heard the crash and turned around in surprise. "Ah, fuck. Mattie? Did you follow me?"
That was the last person Al wanted to see him there. Matt would put it together right away and freak out and... Al shook his head. "You're not in trouble unless you're a student who's actually crossed into the restricted section." Maybe Al could bargain with a student... he could use some help, actually.

Maria almost let out a small squeak of her own but luckilly her mouth was in the way. Lucky her. She heard the Flying teacher call out the Charms teacher's name and it made her raise her brow once again. She had heard that he and the good-looking Charms teacher were close friends but in this situation?
Something must be up.
Then again, she heard the man call out again about another thing, this time referring to a student. It made her nearly hit herself. 'Putang ina! [Motherfucker!] Look what you brought yourself into, Maria!' her inner self scolded her, mentally hitting her again.
'Gaga tumahimik ka! [Bitch, shut up!]' she mentally retorted, 'I can turn the tables around. I'm a Gryffindor for Bathala's sake'
Stepping out of the shadows, with a little bit of hesitation, she looked at the man with a serious look. "Professor, you shouldn't be here." she stated, her voice monotonic.

Al looked up and spotted her. 'OH FUCK' Al recognized the Gryffindor right off and tried not to wince. She was a big fan of his. "Hey Maria. I know I should be at the feast, but that's not going to be over for a few hours yet and I just realized that a friend of mine could be in a serious situation so I thought I'd look it up and work... on... a... solution?" He shrugged. "Look, I won't give you a detention if you help me out."

Maria's eyes widened as she heard that. Did she even hear that right? Even if the words were said in one breath, well to her, it had something more. As much as she has a major crush on the American, she was more worried that she'll place a blemish on her detention-less record.
She wasn't going to be given detention if she helped him out.
No detention.
No detention.
NO DETENTION
That was like music to her ears as the girl suddenly beamed up at Ameircan and replied, "I'll help then~"

Al beamed. "AWESOME." He pulled out a piece of parchment and scribbled out a pass.
"You'll want this in case we get split up and a less friendly teacher spots you." He paused, debating what he should tell her. "Okay, so this friend was recently in a train wreck of a relationship - the boyfriend was an abusive wizard. I'm worried because wizards with abusive traits have been known to use spells that force their victim to be loyal to them in someway." He fell silent, then plucked a book off the shelf and flipped through it.
"Here, look at this." The page showed a forearm marked with a intricate pattern. "I'm looking for variations on this kinda curse, something that claims a person - not always as obviously as with a tattoo-like mark - and sets up some consequence for disobedience and disloyalty."
Al took a deep breath. "Can you look around for any book that looks like it might contain info on curses like that? Don't touch any, some of them are dangerous. If you spot one though, call me over."

Maria got the the scribbled pass ad placed it within he robes' pocket. She listened to the teachers and took in everything with a serious expression. She was rather curious on why the professor was suddenly serious and extremely absorbed on this. But when she heard the word curse, her attention to the situation doubled and her interest piqued.
Even if her best subject was Care for Magical Creatures, Defense Against the Dark Arts did not lag behind. Eyeing the pattern, she cocked ber brow in interest. It did resemble something the witch doctors would cast back home but she wasn't entirelly sure if they were the same. "Ok, Professor I'll look for this." she said before setting to the dark parts of the restricted section.
Taking out her wand she placed it in front of her and whispered a soft, "Lumos" and a feeble yet fair enough bulb of light illuminated at the tip of her wand.

Al smiled as she headed off, then started copying notes onto sheets of parchment by his lamplight. He really hated looking at the darker side of magic, but being able to face it and take it down... Well, there was a reason DADA was his best academic subject while he attended Hogwarts.
On top of that, he was a Gryffindor. It would have been rather pathetic if he didn't help a friend out of this kind of situation, let alone his best friend, the person he was closest too.

Walking along the darkend aisles of th said said section of the library, the Filipina skimmed through the various volumes of books, some she could read immediatley, some it took her a while to understand while the rest, she barely understood at all. Then again, it did not hinder her from taking this particular book from the shelf. The text on the spine somehow registered like this in her eyes, "Andrasiaid a Felltithion a Caethiwa" but as she took the book and looked at the front cover it changed into legible English, "Curses and Hexes that Bind".
As she read the cover, she felt that she somehow hit the jackpot. Upon further inspection of the book, she noted the dusty leather that served as its jacket, some parts seemed to have tattered off due to age of it being stored away. A thin sheet of dust covered it as well as cobwebs in which the girl brushed it off with her sleeve. Crouching down, she opened the book and swore she heard it whisper at her.
She couldn't say it was her imagination because this IS real.
With a furrowed brow, she carefully read each page of the book. It was certainly talking about curses, even showed magic circles, diagrams and such as well as spells, potions etc. If she was muggle she would say this was voodoo but she's, of course not, an ordinary muggle. Nor a trying hard wicca.
As she turned one more page, she caught sight of the words, "-erformed to bind a lover to oneself." Pausing fo a moment,s he skimmed the page and found a similar marking like the one Alfred presented to her earlier.
Is this-?
"Um...Professor...?"

Alfred heard her voice right of and went to her. When he he saw the book on the counter he let out a worried noise. "I thought I told you not to touch any! Some of these books are cursed and can transfer them to anyone who touches them!" He barely prevented his voice from getting too loud.
He scowled at her and sighed. "There's a reason these books are restricted. Be careful. I refuse to let a student be hurt on my watch." finally, he turned to the book and started looking trough it, Accio-ing each page to flip it when he was reading. "Good find, Maria." He paused, then made a duplicate of the book, spelling the real one back onto the shelf.
"This will help alot. We better head back. I'll send you through a passage that will get you back to the Great Hall before me." He gently touched her shoulder and led her out of the restricted section. 'What the hell was she thinking? I TOLD her not to touch any of the books... better get her out.

Maria winced as the man scolded her for disobeying one of his orders for her. Well, she had to admit that she let that tiny instruction slip from her mind. Besides, how would she even know what the book was saying if she did not open it. However, from what she skim read before she got caught, she was rather curious on why would THE Alfred F. Jones be interested in a relationship-bind circle, or that’s how she would summarize it. And as she pondered more on it, she also realized that probably the only friend the blonde American would consider as a friend in this school was the blonde Canadian, Matthew Williams.
Things somehow made sense to her as she was escorted out of the library with a firm grip. On normal days, if she wasn’t so busy thinking, she would be fan-girling over this but she wasn’t in that state of mind sadly. She’ll have to fan girl about this afterwards.
It bugged her. Was Professor Matthew under a curse? It would seem that her secret love for DADA was resurfacing once again, although always would make it a point to make her love for Care would be one step ahead of it. But anyway, this was quite a catch.
“Say Professor Jones, does it by chance that the person you are referring to a professor in this school as well?” she said, choosing her words carefully. Maria wanted to make sure that her guess was right. If it was wrong, then it’s back to the old drawing board for her. Well, at least by that way, she can’t make a fool of herself. She looked at the professor with a serious look.

Al looked at her in surprise. "Let me put it this way. I have a lot of friends, and I look after them. I was a Gryffindor, you know. I wouldn't be able to say for certain anyway. Most of these curses prevent the victims from mentioning them." He shrugged, then smiled at her. "And that's prying, missy."
He lead her to a tapestry, then pushed it aside. "Go through there. You'll end up outsied the great hall" ((LOL, totally made up passage))

[sorry about the double post! ; o ; My internet loves protesting on me and the net here in the country-side is retarded]
Maria pouted a bit at the vague reply of the professor. She was totally unsatisfied at the reply he gave at her. Oh and excuse her for prying and for being a curious little kitten. But then again, as they say, curiosity killed the cat. Maria’s inner self told her that it would be best to let this rest until the time is right. What she can do for now was bid her time and enjoy the rest of the feast.
Looking back at the professor, she opened her mouth to say this before entering the pathway, “Sorry about that professor and thank you.” Her tone was polite like a regular student’s and it was as if she did not have a girlish crush on him to begin with. Then again, as a Gryffindor, Maria knew how to set her priorities straight. The girl then gave the male a slight nod as she disappeared within the tunnel, which was supposedly going to lead her back to the Great Hall.

Al sighed and dropped the tapestry back in place, then stated to head down the moving stairs at a lazy pace. He had to return back after Maria, and he wanted to puzzle over the possibility of Matthew being cursed. "Best to come up with a generalized counter-spell first, then ask."
