Country: The Republic of India. REPRESENT! *shot*
Name: Sonali Malhotra
Age: Ermm. I'll just go with 21.
Gender Female, of course~
Appearance: A young brunette woman, with tanned skin, and a quiet attitude. Almost looks like a gypsy, as she wears headbands and/or scarves frequently, with occasionally jewelry, but all in moderation. She’s partial to flowing skirts, but her wardrobe is rather variegated, she likes to dress modestly.
Personality: Sonali is a usually quiet woman, who usually keeps her thoughts and opinions to herself. But, if the time calls for it, she is a fierce leader, and a wise one as well. She is rather talented in debate, though it rarely shows, and can be bubbly and vivacious if you draw her out of her shell. Oddly, she is skilled with Muggle technology. (Y’know, since India is one of those main manufacturer countries.) She is always there to lend a helping hand, and is a trustworthy and reliable friend. She is inept when it comes to relationships, and at nursing a broken heart. She puts her heart into everything, and that’s not always a good thing.
About the Country: The Indus Valley civilization was one of the oldest ever, having been on the Earth since the early BC era. It was a prosperous civilization, well known for its wealth in agriculture and it’s bounty of treasure. For a long period of time, India only traded and met with the different nations of Asia, like China, Persia, etc, and being ruled by many different rulers, such as the Mughals. Alexander the Great majorly broke the barrier when he conquered India, and Europeans started majorly trading with India, especially during the 1500’s, led by Portugal, France, and the most well known, England. This trading kept on for quite a number of years, until around the 1600’s, when Britain started having a more tight hold on India, and causing it to slowly become the sole, and major trader with India. Eventually, the British East India Company, dissolved, and India was then under of the British Raj, Queen Victoria becoming the Empress of India. (Without even going there. *shot*) There was much anger at this, and civil wars erupted quite a few times, some Indians even siding with the British, and becoming sepoys. Famines and diseases also spread around this time. Starting in 1920, many Indians, like Mohandas Gandhi, began using mass movements to campaign against the rule of the British Raj, especially through nonviolence, which gained India world-wide acclaim and notoriety. Finally, after the end of World War II, India was granted its independence. But, along with this, it was also split into another country, Pakistan, due to religious problems between the Hindus and Muslims. Nowadays, India is recognized as a country with one of the fastest growing economies ever, being included in the UN, and the BRICs, a term used by Goldman Sachs. It maintains close ties with America, England, Russia, China, France, and Israel.
Class they teach: Divination, India is generally very superstitious, and also reported to be rather skilled in such magic, known for people like soothsayers, and tarot card readers.
House when they were a student: Gryffindor.
Blood Type: Pureblood.
Anything Else?: Holds a dislike for the Headmaster, but will not say anything if asked. Quiet, secretive, cheerful.
Writing Sample:
Sonali wrapped a lock of her long brown hair around her index finger as she walked towards the castle, her shiny flats making cheerful sounds on the ground, as the moon illuminated the pathway on which she walked. Hogwarts. It had been so long, to her at least. She missed the place like on would miss a close relative. She missed the people there as well. Sonali was pleased to hear that many of her old classmates were teaching here, like Francis Bonnefoy, the almost…overly friendly Ravenclaw, or Alfred Jones, a fellow Gryffindor alumni with a major hero complex. And, she was back, ready to prove herself as Divination teacher. She had always been a brilliant student in that certain area, not that she was abysmal in the others, it was just that she had a passion for Divination. And she had these odd…tremors, if you would. They didn’t happen every day, almost once in month, oddly like clockwork, on a full moon…..like tonight. Her mother had said she was a Seer, and if it was true, then she would be the best for this job. As soon as she snapped out of her reverie, she found herself at the Headmaster’s office. Arthur Kirkland. Hmph. He was nice enough, but….there something about him. She didn’t know what it was, it just made her almost put up invisible shields whenever he was around. She didn’t trust him. One bit. But, she had to impress him if she was to get the job. Biting her lip, and saying a wordless prayer, she stepped into the office, ready to prove her worth.
