((I hope I'm posting this in the right place...))
Country: Spain
Name: Antonio Fernandez Carriedo
Age: 24
Personality:
Antonio is a cheerful, easygoing, and carefree man who seems to smile and love tomatoes a bit too much. Optimistic and passionate, his sunny disposition reflects the country he is from. Antonio can sometimes be extremely clueless and thus insensitive, though he does mean well. He is known for not being able to read the mood and, in all honesty, doesn’t really try to. Despite his spacey personality, he enjoys teaching and loves kids. Antonio also enjoys playing guitar, dancing, and cooking.
Although as a student Antonio was sorted into Hufflepuff, the sorting hat had to debate which house to put him in due to his…other personality. Though this does not happen nearly as often as it used to, he will have a random mood swing and become antagonistic, violent, and overall downright scary. It’s within one’s best interest to be very far away from Antonio becomes like this.
When Antonio was younger, he liked being the boss and would sometimes bully kids even with his cheerful demeanor so he could be in charge. However, now he looks back and sort of regrets it, though he still likes being the boss. Even though he is a generally nice person, though, he will forwardly express his dislike for certain people.
About the Country:
Spain was once a massive empire, having colonized Central and South America along with other territories around the world. It became part of the Roman Empire in 206 BC. In 711, Muslims from Africa entered Spain and successfully took over in the following years. However, in 732, the Franks defeated the Muslims, preventing the expansion of Islam in southern Europe.
Aragon and Castile, Spain’s most important states from the 12th to the 15th century, were merged in 1469 with the marriage of Ferdinand II and Isabella I. In 1478, they established the Inquisition which punished Jews and Muslims who had not sincerely converted to Christianity. Spain amassed its huge empire in the 16th century with the discovery, exploration, and colonization of Central and South America. The Spanish Hapsburg monarchy became for a time the most powerful in the world.
In 1588, Philip II sent the Spanish Armada to invade England. However, the defeat of the Armada at the hand of the British cost Spain its domination of the seas. Also, the War of Spanish Succession from 1701 to 1714 resulted in Spain's loss of Belgium, Luxembourg, Milan, Sardinia, and Naples. The colonial empire in the Americas and the Philippines vanished due to wars and revolutions in the 18th and 19th centuries. Under the rule of weak Hapsburg kings, Spain slipped from an important entity of Europe to a second-rate power and never was a major player in European politics.
The Spanish Civil War (1936-39) resulted from between the Republican government and the Nationalist opposition. General Franco, leading the successful Nationalists, kept Spain neutral during World War II. His military dictatorship led to political and economical isolation. When he died in 1975, a constitutional monarchy was established. President Adolfo Suarez introduced important political reforms. The overwhelming election of Prime Minister Felipe González Márquez in the 1982 parliamentary elections put the Spanish Socialist Workers Party into office.
Spain became member of the NATO in 1985 and entered the European Community in 1986, now the European Union. The majority of people in Spain are Roman Catholic, though the religion is not the official religion of the country. Spanish is the official language; recognized regional languages are Aranese, Basque, Catalan/Valencian and Galician. It is the fourth largest country in Europe.
Class they teach: Care of Magical Creatures
House when they were a student: Hufflepuff
Blood Type: Pureblood
Anything Else?:
Antonio’s wand is 11” cedar with unicorn hair.
Antonio slips into Spanish when he’s stressed out. He owns a small turtle named Pedro that sometimes will find a way to climb on top of his head without him knowing in the middle of teaching. Also, on his desk in his office, there is a tomato plant growing.
After classes, he takes a nap. Every. Day. And he does not like when people interrupt his siesta.
There’s a huge battle ax hanging on one of the walls in his office…He’s not entirely sure why it’s there either.
Writing Sample:
It was relatively cold that morning, Antonio noticed as he walked down the hallways with a light smile on his face. He was shivering slightly, still not used to Britain’s cooler climate after spending the summer in Madrid. Professor Fernandez was late, apparent by the lack of students in the corridors. This was a relatively normal occurrence as the students would soon learn. He had been early the first day of classes by pure chance, but now he was arriving five minutes after his students had.
Waltzing into the classroom, the teacher greeted his class with a cheerful smile, contrasting the bleak gray clouds hanging around Hogwarts castle. A girl in the front row tried asking why he was late in which he responded, “I’m late? …Well, won’t you look at that” and laughed. She looked at him incredulously as he walked towards the board.
“OK, so, before we can go outside this year, we have to go over some safety rules,” he said as he picked up a piece of chalk. "Not exactly the greatest thing to do, but it's better than being scratched by a bowtruckle or getting kicked in the face by a hippogriff..."
((…Agh, I made the history too long. OTL))
